Directions

Please refer to the medication’s patient information leaflet before starting any new medication.

  • Administration: Inject subcutaneously once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of the day, with or without meals.

  • Injection Sites: Abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Rotate injection sites weekly.

  • Dosage: Your prescriber will decide the best dose for you. A typical schedule may be: 2.5 mg once weekly for 4 weeks. Increase to 5 mg once weekly if tolerated. Further increases can be made in 2.5 mg increments every 4 weeks up to a maximum of 15 mg once weekly, as tolerated and advised by your healthcare provider.

  • Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, administer as soon as possible within 4 days. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. The minimum time between two doses must be at least 3 days

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Decreased appetite

  • Constipation

Serious (rare) side effects:

  • Pancreatitis

  • Gallbladder disease

  • Kidney problems

  • Allergic reactions

  • Hypoglycemia (especially when used with other diabetes medications)

Warnings

  • Allergies: Do not use if allergic to tirzepatide or any of the injection components.

  • Medical Conditions: Not recommended for individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2.

  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended if trying to conceive,  during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider.

  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking, especially insulin or other antidiabetic drugs.

  • Surgery: Tell all your healthcare professionals if you are planning surgery or any procedure.
    Mounjaro® may need to be stopped, and your healthcare team will advise the safest plan for you.

  • Yes, but only if it's prescribed for weight management. Mounjaro is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition. A healthcare professional will assess if it’s the right option for your needs.
  • If you miss a dose and it’s been less than 4 days (96 hours), take it as soon as possible. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take your next one on your usual day. Never take two doses at once.
  • No, Mounjaro works best when used alongside healthy lifestyle changes. Eating well and staying active will help maximise results and support your overall health.
  • Yes, if it continues to be effective and well-tolerated. Your doctor or nurse will monitor your progress and adjust the dose if needed. Don’t stop using it without speaking to a healthcare professional.
